Lightwork HabLab

The inspiration for the Lightwork HabLab came from a blend of Tiny homes and modern office spaces. Using the psychology and science from “The Secret Life of Buildings” and incorporating our design teams own unique talents resulted in the construction of a successfully created modern workspace with an inquisitive interactive space. The ergonomics and chromatography of the office reflect a natural calming ambience. Our group's main aim was to increase productivity and efficiency by up to 20%. Staying as close to natural materials as possible we chose to pursue with wood, using the flexible qualities that wood has we were able to create a solid a frame, whilst softening the appearance by curving wood around the corners. This stops the space from feeling less artificial and in turn stressful. Sticking closely with tiny homes we found it imperative that we incorporate “smart storage”. As demonstrated with the portable storage units on the walls, they can be changed into different positions. With ¾ of the cube incorporating streamlined curvature, it was important that the person that occupied the space did not feel trapped. Although, productivity can be increased by having a closed-off area free from distractions. By taking away the 4th corner’s frame and creating an open planned entrance it opened the workspace up but doesn’t impact the space negatively instead it breaks the linear pattern of holes. The shape of the space offers is much like the creative process, a cycle of thinking. Using three boards offers users the opportunity to take a clear systematic approach to their work that will flow with space. “Lightwork” allows lights to shine in from the ceiling, as well as the holes on the corner walls and the space between the walls. By using natural materials and the opportunity for an abundance of light creates a connection to the outside world. In conclusion Lightway is a modern work space, that offers a personal working environment. Designed with 3 separate pin boards giving the user/users a 270 degree circumference to work from. Lightway gives the opportunity to step inside an enclosed environment blocking out the distractions that can surround the workplace. With the use of pin boards it gives the users ownership on the space allowing them to arrange and work to their own preference. The space comes with an app that gives user to option to set a timer on the lighting above each pinboard. This could be used if the users only want to spend a certain amount of time in a certain area. Alternatively the full space can used with no time restrictions. Lightway is an ideal working space for designers, marketing, research and a range of other professions.
